If you come to Jacksonville Florida, don't plan on getting to where you want easily if you are going to use the public transportation system. This city has the most screwed up ideas on how to get where you're going.  I personally have called a Taxicab and waited for  FIVE hours, only to have the cab show up four hours after I was supposed to be at work.  The only time the damn busses run on time is in the morning.  The Skyway system only goes to eight different places in town.  It cost 180 million dollars to build.

What the hell is wrong with this town?  For one, southern tradition denotes having a big, loud, and flashy car.  I have seen the daintiest little women driving some kind of "muscle" car.  Or at least one that looks like one.  See, down here football and Nascar aren't just sports, they're religions.

You say bus to the guy down the road, who's in a wheel chair, and you get all the excuses.  My friend would rather pay $2.50 either way, taking 5 or 6 hours to get there and back on the community service transport, rather than go to the nearest bus stop and paying 75¢ one way, waiting a few hours at most.  Nobody cares about this bus system.

This city has the largest land area size in the US of A.  The city is like 36 X 55 miles.  Still it's not that big of a city.  Years ago it was given the distinction of being a big little country town.  There are a few tall buildings downtown, but not anything like I remember from Louisville, or Philadelphia.  There are whole sections of this city that are actually woody, snake and gator infested, wilderness.  Still getting from one place to another can take hours driving.

Yes!  We have a bus system, we can get around, we do ride the bus on occasion.  But to have a good system is like asking for a bucket of steam.  I can wait for the damn bus that comes closest to my house for an hour.  I'll see other busses come and go 3 times before mine will come.  Last night I waited for 45 minutes for a bus that runs every 30 minutes.  I've counted the other lines coming in 3 times while the one I wait for is still "out there."

On the weekend, you could die before they would run on time.  I personally got down to the bus stop on a Sunday, I was going to the store to get some groceries and other necessities only to wait for 35 minutes after the bus was supposed to be there.  I saw the bus go in the other direction and knew I was going to be where I was supposed to be in a few.  I waited for another 20 minutes and finally went down to the spot where they would start the route, the bus was sitting there.  I went up showed my pass for my bicycle, loaded the bike, got on the bus, paid for the trip, and the damn bus driver started in on how I was supposed to wait at the stop, this was where they took their breaks and such.  She was smoking a cigarette and had some kind of machine in her hand, I guess an Mp3 player.

Wait!  There's more!  I got to where I needed to go, did my shopping, and started on the way back to catch the last damn bus back to my house.  I take the bus which is running on time back to the spot where I have to get back on this line and wait for 30 minutes past when it's supposed to be there, hop on my bike, drive it to where the route ends, get into the grocery store and get my food only to come out in 45 minutes to see the damn bus pulling up 2 hours and 5 minutes after it's supposed to be there.  This for a bus that's supposed to circle every 30 minutes.

If you are planning to come to Jacksonville Florida, make sure you bring plenty of money to pay the taxi cabs to wait, or your own ride.
